Telling Time Part 2

Telling time in Indonesian is easy. As mentioned in the previous lesson, there is a slight difference between Jam and Pukul. Jam is informal in conversation while Pukul is more informal in which you can find in timetables, announcements, etc.

2:00   Jam dua tepat

2:15   Jam dua seperempat

2:30  Jam dua tiga puluh


Using the word Lewat (means pass)

2:15  Jam dua lewat lima belas 
                  or
         Jam dua seperempat

3:30  Jam tiga lewat tiga puluh


Using the word Kurang (means to)

2:45   Jam tiga kurang lima belas

5:55  Jam enam kurang lima

For AM use the word pagi if it is before 12 noon,  while for PM use the word malam if it is after 12 noon.

For example :

3:00  Jam tiga pagi 

22:00 Jam sepuluh malam
